How to Remove Velodyne HGS series plate amplifier

Warning

SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH COULD RESULT FROM THE IMPROPER REPAIR OR SERVICE OF ELECTRONICS EQUIPMENT.
ALL WORKS MUST ONLY BE DONE BY AN QUALIFIED TECHNICIAN.

Unplug main power cord and wait at least 2 hours before proceed with the future steps. Main filter capacitors inside the unit can hold high voltage long time especialy for bad unit. Do not touch any components inside the unit to avoid electrical shock.

Your work space should be free of any small metal objects or metal dust. There is huge magnet inside the cabinet, small objects can get inside and damage the woofer or cause distortion.

Whenever is possible avoid to ship whole cabinet. Ship the back plate amplifier only. These old units may have weak glue joints in the magnet system- easy to slip during the shipping and destroy the woofer. Shipping box may look perfect after that.

Please be advised that the HGS series amplifiers are very critical to internal connections- reversing speaker wires or improper connection of accelerometer plug can result in huge oscillation and destroying your woofer or the amplifier. Accelerometer plug was designed without any key to prevent its wrong positioning so it accidently can be reversed or shifted. Also on some units negative and positive speaker wires looks identical. Make sure you mark all connections or make pictures before disconnecting the plugs.
Double check before powering up the unit. Put volume control down. When you first time, after assembling, turn on your subwoofer be ready to unplug it immediately if something goes wrong.

Remove backplate screws

Remove 12 circled screws from the back plate, as indicated in figure.
Gently pull plate amplifier of the cabinet.

Disconnect accelerometer plug

Unplug the accelerometer connector from the plate amplifier. Remember position of the connector for the future.

Disconnect speaker wires

Reversed connection woofer wires can destroy your woofer so before disconnecting wires mark position of each wire or take pictures. Wire colors may differ from our pictures.
Unplug woofer wires from the plate amp. They have no lock so just pull them.

Packing

Obviously PC boards are relatively fragile, and poor packing can result in a board that is damaged beyond repair.
To properly pack the board, wrap it in three layers of the large bubble wrap.
Put the packaged board into a snug fitting box, or use more bubble wrap to fill the box so the boards do not bang around in transit.
